Low Flyers CC presents...the Big Kahuna Hodown!!
Sid Anaya, president of Low Flyers Car Club- ABQ, has teamed up with the staff of Burt's Tiki Lounge in an effort to restore Retro, Rockabilly, Hotrods and more to Gold Ave, where Rockabilly once reigned supreme. The second in a successful series, the Big Kahuna Hodown III will blend live Rockabilly and Surf/Ska bands, a retro burlesque sampler show, swing dancing, car and Tiki culture into a night to remember!
Burt's is the last remaining Polynesian bar in Albuquerque, and is the perfect backdrop for the show. Guests can sip cool, refreshing cocktails from Tiki mugs between dancing and watching the live shows, then stroll the roadway out front and view the classic cars and hotrods from the city's diverse car clubs.
We hope to see you there on the night that Rockabilly returns to Gold Ave.!

Super Happy Funtime Burlesque Is an 18 member touring monstrosity. A live band, a burlesque troupe, a circus act, that is all together too contemporary, too modern, too bawdy, and too controversial to be defined just as “burlesque”. So, calling itself ‘burlesque’ for lack of a better term, SHFB is heading out for their 7th national tour this fll with its newest musical production. For their Albuquerque stop, SHFB is teaming up with Gilded Cage Burlesk & Varieté, bringing in Vivian MirAnn as a guest star performer.
Designed to find your line and cross it, some kind of strange mix of GWAR and Benny Goodman with touches of SNL and the Price is Right, SHFB sprays you with glitter and love while playfully degrading taboo subjects like religion, politics, and sex.
“For every 100 people dancing, there are usually ten or so walking out the door,” says host and bandleader Mr Happypants, “you either get it or you don’t; the right people get it.”
SHFB sets itself apart from other burlesque shows, and touring acts in general, for one major reason: its live band playing original music. Somewhere in a middle ground between Frank Zappa and Tom Waits, this show that gets curiosity seekers out with the promise of tits keeps them in the seats with a set of original tunes that get stuck in your head for weeks after the performance. “People are surprised by the songwriting! What they don’t know is that we’re all professional artists who’s day jobs are in the musical theater world, we bring that aesthetic and blend it with an underground edginess that leaves peoples jaws on the floor.”

Join us as we take over Low Spirits Bar & Stage, turning it into a Retro Polynesian paradise for one night only!!! Plus, our friends at Pabst Brewery will be on hand to provide swag and raffle prizes galore for the audience!
It all comes together in this, the second collaboration between Dr. Sketchy's Albuquerque and the Gilded Cage gang; a matinee show that combines the Burlesque & Vaudeville elements that the Gilded Cage is renowned for with the off-beat art school known as Dr. Sketchy's. We'll be kicking off the event with an impromptu Polynesian cocktail hour where guests can mingle with performers and friends while Lou Gomes, proud host and branch director of New Mexico's first Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, gives artists the run down on the basics of sketching. Then, select performers will retake the stage and pose for artists and photographers during a series of timed poses. Sound simple? Well it's not! The poses aren't what you'd consider traditional, and prizes will be awarded for the most outstanding (and unusual) takes on the art and models. Artists, it's your time to shine while you figure out artistic oddities and strange challenges thrown at you from the art director!
When the sketching portion of the evening winds down, the gang of the Gilded Cage wind up for an exhibition-style show featuring world renowned Burlesque Hooper Valentina and the UK Sideshow Sensation Bags. The show will feature New Mexico's best and most unusual burlesque, side show, acrobat and acrobalance performers along with favorites from our Belly Dance community! It's a evening of fun for artists and audience alike as we bring you...

It all comes together in this, the first-ever event of it's kind; a matinee show that combines the Vaudeville elements that the Gilded Cage is renowned for with the off-beat art school known as Dr. Sketchy's. We'll be kicking off the event with the Gilded Cage show featuring burlesque, belly dance, sideshow and more.
After, the performers will mingle with guests for impromptu pictures and cocktails while Lou Gomes, proud host and branch director of New Mexico's first Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, gives artists the run down on the basics of sketching. Then, select performers will retake the stage and pose for artists and photographers during a series of timed poses. Sound simple? Well it's not! The poses aren't what you'd consider traditional, and prizes will be awarded for the most outstanding (and unusual) takes on the art and models. Artists, it's your time to shine while you figure out artistic oddities and strange challenges thrown at you from the art director. It's a evening of fun for artists and audience alike as we bring you...
